Community Partner Spotlight: Q&A with Micron Technology, Inc.

Companies are able to find a breadth of opportunities to engage with the Northern Virginia community through NVFS, whether they’re interested in a particular topic area or location. Micron Technology Inc. has been able to translate NVFS volunteer opportunities into team-building experiences that benefit the community directly around its Manassas office. Read more on why the company chooses to partner with our organization:

1. With so many nonprofits in the DC area, why does Micron choose to support NVFS?

Micron and the Micron Foundation enrich our community and promote robust education in the areas of STEM. NVFS offers meaningful educational programs that are a hand-up for many people in our region, such as Training Futures, which provides adults with the professional skills to acquire living-wage, career-track jobs.

2. How has Micron been able to engage further in the work of NVFS over the years?

Micron and the Micron Foundation support the family shelter and the Hunger Resource Center at NVFS’ SERVE Campus through volunteer hours and in-kind and monetary donations. The SERVE campus is a pillar of our community and tirelessly helps those less fortunate. It is great to see so many businesses, organizations and individuals coming together in support of SERVE.

As a part of team-building activities, Micron employees volunteer at SERVE on regular basis, participate in NVFS school supply and food drives, and collect business clothes for SERVE so that shelter guests have professional attire to wear to job interviews. Micron also donated 10 new bikes, put together by teams of employees as a part of a team-building competition, to families at SERVE.

3. What impact does Micron feel it is able to achieve through NVFS? What sets NVFS apart that makes it a unique partnership for Micron?

NVFS programs equip families and individuals with the tools to get through tough times and become gainfully employed.

Furthermore, SERVE specifically brought together all food agencies in the Prince William region and co-founded the Greater Prince William Food Council, which is committed to a vision of a hunger-free community.

Micron’s support of NVFS programs helps achieve their mission, and our team members are glad to be able to participate through team-building activities.

With 1,300 team members at our Manassas location, we appreciate what NVFS brings to our community and are proud to support their work.
