EVICTION PREVENTION
The Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) Eviction Prevention Program is comprised of two housing services that provide emergency financial assistance to low and moderate-income households that are facing a housing crisis.

The Eviction Prevention Program includes the SHARE-HIP (Homeless Intervention Program), which provides assistance for rent, security deposits, and utility cut-off.

Another program is the Homeless Prevention Program (HPP), which provides assistance for mortgage payments in the form of an interest-free loan. The HIP is funded by the State, and is administered in Arlington and Fairfax Counties. The HPP is funded through the Fairfax County Department of Social Services, and is administered only in Fairfax County. Case management services are a key component of the Evictiction Prevention Program. Emergency financial assistance and case management services, offered through the Eviction Prevention Program, are provided to eligible Arlington and Fairfax County households.

HOUSING COUNSELING
The goal of the Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) Housing Counseling Program is to help individuals and families become self-reliant by helping them to identify achievable goals, and to develop budgeting and money management skills that will serve to enhance long-term housing stability. The Housing Counseling Program offers short-term intensive case management services to low and moderate-income households; clients may also be eligible to receive emergency financial assistance (for rent, security deposits, mortgages, and utility cut-off notices). Short-term intensive case management services are offered for a minimum of 3 months, and a maximum of 6 months. Clients also attend budgeting and money management workshops. The Housing Counseling Program is administered in Arlington and Fairfax Counties.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
In Fairfax County, Northern Virginia Family Service works with the Fairfax County Department of Family Services, Reston Interfaith, Inc. and United Community Ministries to provide homeless families transitional housing. In the BEST (Building, Encouraging, Supporting & Teaching) Transitional Housing Program in Prince William County, Northern Virginia Family Service owns eight transitional houses to help single, homeless mothers. In both programs, case managers provide life-skills training, financial planning and counseling to assist the participants in reaching self-sufficiency.

HOUSING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (HAP)
HAP offers housing assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS. There is a long-term and a short-term program to help Northern Virginians with unexpected emergencies pertaining to health or related issues. More.

PARTNERSHIP FOR PERMANENT HOUSING (PPH)
With strong support from Fairfax County Board Chair Gerald Connolly and leadership from Northern Virginia Family Service, this program seeks to address the challenges of owning a home in Fairfax County. PPH has as its goal to turn 25 current renting families into homeowners in approximately five years. With NVFS as a spearhead, this program is being funded by Fairfax County, and will receive case management support from Reston Interfaith and New Hope Housing. Download the brochure (pdf).
