NVFS has been awarded $200,000 over
two years from Bank of America. This grant will
allow NVFS to build a much needed intranet system.
The selection was made by an independent group of
business leaders from across the region. Click

American Grant Presentation.

The Fannie Mae Help the Homeless
Foundation chose NVFS as one of the beneficiary
organizations for the nation’s largest fundraising
campaign to end homelessness. The program spanned
several months and culminated in the Help-the-Homeless
Walkathon on the National Mall on November 17, 2007.
Proceeds from the walk benefit the NVFS' BEST
Houses.
- The CARE initiative began in 1992 in response
to a growing number of counseling clients who cited
workplace stress as a major factor in their family
difficulties. In an effort to curb this alarming
trend, Northern Virginia Family Service enlisted
the support of the business community. The result
was the CARE Advisory Committee.
The Advisory Committee developed the CARE Awards
as a mechanism for effecting change where problems
often start - in the workplace. Each year the
CARE Awards are given to employers in Northern
Virginia that provide exceptionally family-friendly
workplace policies and benefits for their employees.
This year, the CARE awards breakfast was held
on November 14 at the Hyatt Regency in Reston,
VA.
- NVFS honored families during its Healthy Families
Alexandria program on Dec. 17 at its annual holiday
party. Healthy Families Alexandria is a voluntary
home visiting program that gives first-time overburdened
parents the emotional support and skills needed
to assure positive outcomes for children from birth
to age 5, which is the most rapid and significant
developmental phase of life.
