Northern Virginia Family Service Awarded Prestigious Workforce Training Grant
NVFS has won a three-year $300,000 grant from the Aspen Institute for the Training Futures' Courses to Emplyoment (CTE) program, which assists low-income adults achieve greater success in higher education, and ultimately, the workforce.

Area Business Donates Birthday Parties to NVFS Foster Children
All About Parties offers a complete party package to NVFS foster parents so that foster children may enjoy memorable birthday celebrations.

Bank of America Names NVFS Receiver of Competitive Grant
Organization presents grant to improve overall communication in agency through an improved intranet system.

NVFS Wins Grants for Head Start Program in Arlington
The grant will allow NVFS to take on a different approach to its already existing Early Head Start (EHS) program, which graduates children at the age of three. The Head Start program will serve over 200 children ages 3-5 in a full day, full year center-based program.

NVFS Receives Luggage for its children in the Foster Care Program
NVFS announced the donation of ten suitcases for children in its foster care program. This donation will help achieve NVFS’ goal of meeting more than just basic needs for foster children, by providing them a piece of luggage they can call their own.

NVFS Names New Board Chair
NVFS has elected two new board members and appointed a new Board Chair.

Get Ready for the 2007 Back-to-School Drive
Donations include a backpack full of the necessary school supplies such as paper, pencils, markers, and pens. Gift cards and monetary donations are also accepted. Donations must be delivered to the Oakton office of NVFS by August 3rd

NVFS Hosts Care for Kids Benefit
More than 50 people came together to support the Care for Kids reception, helping to raise funds to benefit the Loudoun Kids Health Partnership (LKHP). LKHP is a program of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) that provides access to low-cost comprehensive primary medical care for uninsured children of low-income Loudoun County residents.

Applications for the 2007 CARE Awards Now Available
T he application for the 2007 CARE (Companies As Responsive Employers) Awards are now available. Applications must be submitted by June 29. The format for the 2007 awards has changed so companies are not judged based on size, and therefore, it does not create a limit on how many winners will be awarded.

Gala Raises Awareness and Funds for the Success of its Programs
NVFS raised awareness for the organization, and gathered important funds at its annual Road to Independence Gala on Friday, May 4 at the Hilton Hotel in McLean, VA.

NVFS to Help those Affected by VA Tech Tragedy
NVFS has extensive training in trauma recovery and helping families cope with tragedies through its Survivors’ Fund Project, a program set up to help those affected by the 9/11 attacks.

Healthy Families Alexandria to Host Benefit at MetroStage
Healthy Families Alexandria (HFA) announced that it will host a fundraising event at MetroStage to benefit the children and families it serves. HFA is a program of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS), an organization dedicated to empowering and strengthening families and the community. This will be the sixth year for the benefit for HFA.

Report Finds Low-Income Families Need Workforce Development to Succeed
Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) has been named as having a best practice program model in improving the lives of the working poor. The Brookings Institute, gave their findings on reducing poverty in Washington, DC by providing working low-income individuals a way to maintain a level above the poverty line.

NVFS Celebrates Healthy Families Alexandria at Holiday Event
Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) honored families in its Healthy Families Alexandria program on Dec. 4 at its annual holiday party. Healthy Families is devoted to promoting the health, early stimulation and nurturing of children at risk of poor outcomes.

NVFS Expands Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Families
More families will be able to overcome homelessness and build promising futures through the recent expansion of Northern Virginia Family Service's (NVFS) BEST Transitional Housing Program. In November, NVFS purchased two townhomes in Prince William County with $250,000 from the Freddie Mac Foundation and $250,000 from a Prince William County Community Development Block Grant.
