$100,000 Awarded to NVFS for Best Practices in Housing Local Homeless

The Virginia Housing Trust Fund has awarded $100,000 to NVFS’ rapid re-housing program for its effectiveness, sustainability, and alignment with state policies. NVFS has decreased the length of stay at SERVE from 180 to 240 days in 2009 down to today’s average of 45 days. Shorter shelter stays lead to increased stability and self-sufficiency for clients as well as an overall reduction in costs. Learn more here.

The $100,000 award will support SERVE, where NVFS’ best practices in rapid re-housing were first implemented and have since earned Rapid Re-Housing Certification by the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

Thank You, Allstate!

SERVE, a program of NVFS, is pleased to receive $1,000 from The Allstate Foundation in honor of Allstate Agent Michael Angles’s volunteerism. 100% of this donation will be put toward the SERVE shelter monthly brunches throughout 2016. We are proud to partner with Allstate and applaud their commitment to making our hometowns better, safer places to live.
