Young Children Learn Best Through Play
Turner Construction volunteer day

It is long-proven that young children learn best through play, and the 200 students at our Head Start center do this in the classroom every day with their teachers. Last year, 98 percent of our students demonstrated kindergarten readiness, a critical indicator for academic success. The daily, tireless efforts of our teachers are enhanced by community partners who make special visits to the center that open children’s eyes to new experiences. Check out the highlights from May, including Turner Construction, CEB, CJM Wealth Advisors and Flint Hill!

Empathy for the Homeless Population Runs Deep in Our Community
While the number of those faced with homelessness has decreased by nine percent in the DC region this year, too many individuals and families in our community still find themselves without a place to call home. We are thrilled that Real Women on the Move, AOL, Sage Communications, Parties 2 Inspire, Till & Tend and Bel-Air Woman’s Club could provide examples of the compassion and support our community shows for those still faced with this unfortunate circumstance.
Local Need Doesn’t Get a Summer Vacation
Hunger Knows No Season

The end of the school year means many local children lose daily access to healthy meals. And without school, young people are often less supervised and may find themselves in situations where their decisions can have lasting ramifications.

Please make a donation today to help ensure our neighbors have what they need to build a stable foundation of well-being. From supplying local families with nutritious food to teaching youth key decision-making skills, your support will help our neighbors have a healthy and safe summer — and reach their full potential. Because when our neighbors thrive, our entire community benefits.

Thank you for the many ways you support our neighbors in need. Our community is — and will continue to be — stronger because of you!

Great One-Time Volunteer Opportunity!
Inventory

It’s that time of year again. As we close out our fiscal year, we must conduct annual inventory at our thrift stores and Hunger Resource Center to assess the health and sustainability of these programs, driven primarily by in-kind donations from our generous community.

Does your company give you time off from work to volunteer? If so, please consider taking advantage of this great opportunity to help us out! Volunteers ages 16 and up are welcome. The more volunteer support we have, the more efficiently we can complete these inventory counts. Thank you for considering this important opportunity!
