Sharon LeGrande
PROGRAM MANAGER - FINANCIAL SERVICES
"After earning a bachelor's and an MSW from
Syracuse University, my first job out of college
was working with low-income clients seeking better
housing options. Through a series of events, I
eventually worked with a private bank in Florida.
After moving to Virginia in 1997, I contracted
with a temp agency while looking for permanent
work and interviewed for a case manager position
with NVFS. It was a bit scary, after all I had
not worked in the social work field for a couple
of years. But I remember my NVFS interviewer saying
that "family issues and dynamics don't change".
I found that to be true. Families, even of different
backgrounds, still have the same issues; trying
to achieve self-sufficiency and reliance and with
the right supports they can do it. Currently,
I manage programs that help clients support their
financial stability through employment, transportation
and money management. I have learned a great deal
at NVFS and have enjoyed working with the co-workers
I have met here. Through hard work and supportive
leadership, I have also achieved at NVFS just
as our families are achieving."
