Norma Hebert
PAYROLL ACCOUNTANT

"I moved to the East Coast after living many years in Seattle. Soon after my arrival, I saw NVFS's advertisement in the Washington Post for a Payroll Accountant. The position was mine a couple of weeks later. During my 5 years working for the agency, I've had much opportunity to learn and grow in the accounting field and, the job experience that I've gained will benefit me through the rest of my working years. There has hardly been a dull moment! The management and staff are a great group and it is very rewarding working with them all. "

Brigitte Jones
YOUTH OUTREACH COORDINATOR

“I was a stay at home mom for 5 years with a BA degree. Then I worked for a couple of places to get my foot in the door and get some experience for a couple of years. At a work related conference, I met an NVFS employee. He told me about NVFS and the available positions. With the support and the guidance of the management staff, I had the opportunity to expand my work responsibilities which lead to the program expansion. NVFS listens to my ideas and offers me the chance to put them into action. I have enjoyed working for NVFS for nearly four years now.”

Sharon LeGrande
PROGRAM MANAGER - FINANCIAL SERVICES

"After earning a bachelor's and an MSW from Syracuse University, my first job out of college was working with low-income clients seeking better housing options. Through a series of events, I eventually worked with a private bank in Florida. After moving to Virginia in 1997, I contracted with a temp agency while looking for permanent work and interviewed for a case manager position with NVFS. It was a bit scary, after all I had not worked in the social work field for a couple of years. But I remember my NVFS interviewer saying that "family issues and dynamics don't change". I found that to be true. Families, even of different backgrounds, still have the same issues; trying to achieve self-sufficiency and reliance and with the right supports they can do it. Currently, I manage programs that help clients support their financial stability through employment, transportation and money management. I have learned a great deal at NVFS and have enjoyed working with the co-workers I have met here. Through hard work and supportive leadership, I have also achieved at NVFS just as our families are achieving."

Cyndy Golightly Dailey
DIRECTOR, QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

"NVFS has provided me with great range of opportunities and experiences during the past twenty-eight years. I was first introduced to NVFS as an intern in 1979, when I was placed in the foster care program during my senior year as a BSW student at GMU. After my first semester in my third choice placement I was offered a part-time job upon graduation. Wanting to make sure I had a job in my field of study, I accepted , but kept the part-time restaurant job that ensured the rent payments would be made. For the next eight years I worked as a foster care worker, recruiter, trainer and supervisor while at the same time getting married and having two children. My husband’s job then took us overseas. After two trips abroad and jobs overseas and back at home with various foster care/ adoption and family service agencies I rejoined NVFS in 1996 as a Program Manager for the Counseling Program. I spent eight years managing the challenges of therapeutic services in a managed care environment before joining the Leadership Team as the Quality Improvement Director. During these past three years I have enjoyed strengthening the infrastructure of NVFS while at the same time pursuing my Masters degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management. NVFS has afforded me a rewarding career in my home community while at the same time providing a balancing that has allowed me to raise my family."

Danielle Rothrock
TREATMENT SUPERVISOR - SPECIAL FOSTER CARE

"After working at this agency for seven years, one of the things I am most proud of is the atmosphere that we create in the foster care program. We get along great and truly are a support for one another. Our work can be difficult, which makes it essential to have a positive, nurturing, supportive environment. We have found a way to form a professional setting that is welcoming and feels as if you have been there for years. As people have come and gone over the years, they remark at how wonderful the foster care team is and how they have never worked at a place like this before."

Aaron Baum
HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT

"I have worn many hats throughout the 5 ½ years I have been with NVFS: Office Manager, Front Desk Receptionist, Project Assistant, and Human Resources Assistant. My time here has been invaluable on many levels. Professionally, I have gained a unique skill set that I utilize as I grow on my career path. Personally, I have met many wonderful and diverse people who are dedicated to helping Northern Virginia Family Service achieve its goals and be a successful force in the community."
