WALK TO RAISE AWARENESS, FUNDS ABOUT HOMELESSNESS
Manassas, VA – August 9, 2011 – Nearly 12,000 people in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region are without homes. More than 40 percent are families. One in four is a child. Join Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 12:30PM at Harris Pavilion for a community walk for the homeless, part of the 2011 Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walkathon program.
More than 250 community members are expected to participate in this one-mile walk to benefit NVFS, including its 60-bed family care shelter on the SERVE campus and transitional and affordable housing programs and supportive services throughout the northern Virginia region.
Register for the Manassas Community Walk by visiting www.nvfs.org/communitywalk. Registration is $20 for youth (ages 25 and younger), $30 for adults; includes 2011 Help the Homeless Program T-shirt.
A morning of fun and family continues after the walk with Manassas City’s annual Chili Cook-off and Kids’ Fest at the Harris Pavilion. These free events bring great food, live music, games and activities for people of all ages.
Fannie Mae’s Help the Homeless Program raises funds to support organizations working to prevent and end homelessness in the Washington metropolitan area. Since 1988, the Help the Homeless Program has raised more than $85 million, impacting thousands of families and children in our communities.
