NVFS Press Release
OAKTON, VA—June 25, 2008— Classes began on June 23rd at the new Arlington Head Start Child Development Center, operated by NVFS. The center will serve 204 children, ages 3-5, in newly renovated classrooms at the center located at 1801 George Mason Drive in Arlington. Parents who are interested in enrolling their children are encouraged to call 703.358.9170 for more information.
"With the opening of the Head Start program, NVFS will now serve area children without interruption from infancy until age 5," said Mary Agee, President and CEO of NVFS. "Low-income families in Arlington now have the opportunity to receive a strong early education foundation alongside the many other services that NVFS already provides."
The new center responds directly to the needs of parents in the community with longer hours, and full-year classes operating out of a single, newly-renovated facility. Transportation will be available for families who are not able to access the centers by public transportation or walking. The program design supports the needs of working families or those who are in school full time. This new center marks an exciting new development in early education in Arlington.
Education services provided to the enrolled children and families in the NVFS Head Start program will address the child’s total learning environment, including health, social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. NVFS Head Start will implement performance-based education and early childhood development positively in a success oriented, safe, unbiased, multi-cultural and inclusive environment. This approach to early education will provide tangible benefits to each and every child who attends classes at the center. The benefits will spread beyond these children to their families and peers.
NVFS looks forward to building a lasting and successful program in Arlington that will serve to enrich the entire community as hundreds of children are helped each year during their crucial developmental phase.
