Training Futures Grad Finds Stability
Ana Maria was out of options. Due to corporate layoffs she lost her job at an airline – and, as a result, lost her health care. The retail jobs she was able to piece together provided some of her much-needed income, but kept her from being at home with her two school-aged daughters on evenings and weekends. Her family was breaking apart at the seams, and the tightening economy and the rising costs of food, gas and other necessities was heaping additional stress on their tenuous circumstances.
Ana Maria found hope in the Training Futures program at NVFS. During the 25-week curriculum, she earned credit hours at Northern Virginia Community College, learned office administrative skills such as word-processing and database management, and improved her workplace communication skills. With her new career, Ana Maria is now able to spend evenings with her children and can provide health insurance for the family.
“I was in a dead-end job, and now I am an HR assistant,” she recently said. “I can support my family, and more importantly, I am leaving a legacy to my daughters, to show them that they can achieve their dreams.”
