Q: Do you offer “free” services?
A: No, we do not offer free services but we do offer clients access to discounted dental and medical services.
Q: Do you offer emergency service?
A No, this is not an emergency service. If you are experiencing an emergency, please go to the hospital nearest you or call 911
Q: I need help with services. What do I do?
A: First, locate the correct phone number for the appropriate Health Access Specialist to call via the NVFS website and speak with a Health Access Specialist who will conduct an eligibility assessment or intake with you right over the phone. You will be notified immediately, by the Health Access Specialist, if you are eligible for services or not. If you are eligible for services, the Health Access Specialist will inform you about the documents needed to get you registered for services.
Q: How long is the application process for the Adult Health Program?
A The application process takes 2 to 3 weeks to complete. Once you are approved, you will be able to make an appointment with a private dentist and/or enroll in the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic
Q: What are the eligibility criteria for your accessible medication programs?
A: In order to qualify for an NVFS accessible medication program, you must be a local resident of Prince William, Fairfax, Loudoun, & Alexandria County; Must have income level below 200% ($21,600 or less for one, $29,140 or less for a family of two and proportionately higher with each additional family member) of the federal poverty level; Must be able to show proof of income; Must have no current prescription drug coverage; You cannot qualify for any government prescription program (Medicaid, Veteran’s Administration, or any state or local drug coverage programs); and you must already have a physician.
Q: I hear you have two different Fairfax Accessible Medication Programs (FAMP). What is the difference?
A: We do have two Fairfax Accessible Medication Programs. One program, located in the main NVFS building, serves all members of the community who are eligible to participate in our program. The other FAMP program, located at the Woodburn Center for Community Mental Health, only serves patients of the Health Center who have chronic mental health/illness needs. Each program has its own dedicated Health Access Specialist.
Q: Are the dentists certified?
A: Yes, the dentists on our private providers list are all board certified general practitioners
Q: Are there specialists in the program?
A: The program offers only general services. There are no specialists available.
Q: Are more critical cases seen first?
A: No. Clients are served in the order they are received.
Q: What documents counts as proof of residency?
A: The following documents count as proof of residency: Drivers license, Lease in applicant’s name, Mortgage in applicant’s name, and a Utility Bill in applicant’s name.
Q: What documents count as proof of income?
A: The following documents count as proof of income: Copy of last year’s tax return, Current W- 2 Forms, If employed- pay stubs for last three months, Bank statements, Social Security/ Disability benefits (award letter), Veteran Benefits, Court order of alimony or child support, Unemployment benefits or Food Stamps, Medicaid or low income subsidy Denial letter (if applies)
Q: What if my income has recently changed, what do I use to show as my proof of income?
A: If your income has recently changed, please submit a copy of last year’s tax return, along with your termination letter from previous place of employment, along with a letter from client stating when and how his/her income has changed.
Q: Are tourist from other countries allowed to participate?
A: Our programs are for residents of Northern Virginia. Individuals who have visas are not eligible.
Q: Can you give a P.O Box for your address?
A: No. You must give a valid Fairfax County address
Q: Are there any clients that you will not serve?
A: Yes, we will not serve individuals who have been deemed ineligible for services by our intake or assessments. Also, we reserve the right to not serve individuals who are inappropriate and/or disrespectful to our Health Access Specialists.
Q Are there similar programs in surrounding counties/cities?
A: Yes. Health Access Specialists will be able to refer clients to these programs.
