Ways to Work is part of a national network of programs hosted within family serving member agencies of the Alliance for Children and Families. Northern Virginia Family Service operates the local WTW program. Through the network of loan offices across the country, families are provided with small, short-term, low-interest loans to them with challenging credit histories. In effect, families are provided with an alternative to predatory lenders for those with a demonstrated commitment to achieving increased self-sufficiency and intent on pursuing a higher degree of success in mainstream financial markets.
All Ways to Work loans are used to help individuals remain in or move forward in their job. The vast majority of our loans are made for the purchase of modestly priced used vehicles. Besides stabilization or improvement in their employment situations, customers also find that our program has caused an increase in their financial literacy, raised their credit rating, heightened their sense of self-esteem, and, for those obtaining a vehicle, brought about a significant improvement in their family’s quality of life.
As an asset-building and economic self-sufficiency program for families without access to conventional financial resources, Ways to Work helps families move off of and stay off welfare and dependency programs by providing families a helping hand-up toward a more stable financial future.
Ways to Work offers two kinds of assistance:
1) Repayable Loan for Car purchase - up to $4,000 for cars*
2) Grant for Car Repairs - up to $750
Loan amounts – up to $4,000 for cars *
* Amount may include car insurance, safety check, and registration.
