Oakton,
Va., June 28, 2005—With a gift from
the Arlington Women’s Civic Alliance (AWCA),
Northern Virginia Family Service’s (NVFS)
Special Foster Care program will be able to
assist families with foster children whose
needs require resources outside the realm
of normal funding.
“Children
are precious resources,” said Lesley Parker,
chair of the AWCA Community Support Committee.
“We hope our gift will support special foster
children in the Northern Virginia area and
provide them a greater base upon which they
can build strong lives.”
NVFS’
Special Foster Care program received a $2,350
check from the alliance at its June meeting
in Washington, D.C. The AWCA is a non-profit
corporation established in 1993 to foster friendship
and work together for the good of the community.
Susan Morris, Special Foster Care and Therapeutic
Respite Care program manager, said financial
gifts like these substantially help families
with foster children whose special needs often
outweigh financial resources.
“We
appreciate this generous donation,” Morris said.
“Benefactors like the AWCA make a considerable
difference in what we can offer foster families
and foster children.”
In
particular, Morris said these funds would help
a foster child who needs cochlear implants and
provide sign language education for both the
family and child.
