NVFS Offers New Holiday Gift Program for

Local Low-Income Families

Oakton, Va., Oct. 17, 2006—Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) has created a new holiday gift program called Gifting for Families that allows the community to provide holiday cheer for NVFS client families. NVFS has refined the process used in previous years to make the program more efficient and enjoyable for NVFS client families and donors.

“We are excited about the new Gifting for Families program, which will continue the tradition that our generous donors have carried on for years. We are looking forward to the upcoming holiday season and invite the community to help make it special for local families who might not otherwise be able to afford typical holiday expenses,” said NVFS President and CEO Mary Agee.

In its efforts to continually support families in becoming self-sufficient, NVFS created the Gifting for Families program, which includes a gift card drive in lieu of the traditional Adopt-a-Family and Thanksgiving Basket drives. The traditional toy drive will continue this year.

The Gifting for Families program will allow donors and families to each experience the joys of the holiday season:

Families benefit from the program by being able to purchase and prepare specialty food for holiday meals, and to pick out appropriate gifts and clothing for their children. In this multi-cultural population, choosing the right clothing, shoes, toys and food is a delicate issue. Parents also know every intricacy of their child’s preferences.

Donors benefit by saving time and not worrying about clothing size, color preference or style. And they can eliminate an extra trip to the store by adding a gift card to their normal shopping routine. Additionally, it makes organizing an office drive much easier.
