Upcoming Programs, Events and News of Intensive Family Service

The following are a list of upcoming programs, events and news of the Intensive Family Service (IFS) division of Northern Virginia Family Service:

Special Foster Care, Therapeutic Respite Care Staff Relocate to Strengthen Services in Prince William County
To better serve families in Prince William County, some staff members of NVFS' Special Foster Care and Therapeutic Respite Care Program have relocated to the Woodbridge office. "While our primary staff will continue to work from Oakton, we have placed several staff members in our Woodbridge office to strengthen our services in this important Northern Virginia area. Our goal is to be as accessible as possible in Prince William County," said Susan Morris, program manager. NVFS' Woodbridge office is located at 2200 Opitz Blvd., Suite 100. Call 703-490-3646.

Brownie Troop 625 to Donate Girls Scout Cookies to NVFS Foster, Respite Kids
Reston Brownie Troop 625 will donate hundreds of boxes of popular Girl Scout cookies to NVFS Special Foster Care and Therapeutic Respite Care children this spring as part of the scouts' Gift of Caring program. "Girl Scouts are known for two things: community service projects and cookies," said Mary Majoras, assistant troop leader. Now, Girl Scouting has combined these two ideas into one outstanding program called the Gift of Caring. Through this program, customers may purchase an additional box of cookies for a troop's Gift of Caring partner. "When we asked the girls for ideas as to whom they would like to help, the girls themselves elected to help NVFS foster kids," Majoras said. The troop comprises 17 girls in grades one through three at Buzz Aldrin Elementary School in Reston. The first of several deliveries to NVFS will be held later this month.

Train to Be a Special Foster Care or Therapeutic Respite Parent This Spring
Community members interested in becoming a Special Foster Care or Therapeutic Respite Care Parent can now register for spring training that begins in late March in Woodbridge. Training will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday March 25, April 1 and April 8. The classes will be held in NVFS' Woodbridge office at 2200 Opitz Blvd., Suite 100. Participants will learn how to support children with special needs and therapeutic parenting techniques, among other topics. For more information, call 703-219-2184.
