Men’s and Women’s Workshops to Be Held for Sept. 11 Survivors

WHAT: Northern Virginia Family Service’s (NVFS) Group Services Program of the Survivors’ Fund Project invites individuals directly affected by the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon to attend two new free support groups. They are part of an ongoing series of workshops created to assist survivors, family members and first responders and their families in addressing their continuing recovery needs.

The women’s and men’s groups provide participants a safe, supportive environment in which to share experiences and hear the stories of others that may be similar to their own. These groups are informal and are led by experienced facilitators.

WHEN: Women’s Support Group, Thursday, July 20, 7:30 – 9 p.m.
This group will offer women the opportunity to examine keys concerns for all women today: stereotypes, parenting, friendships, careers, independence, self-care. Two women facilitate this group. Number of meetings TBD.

Men’s Support Group, Monday, July 24, 7:30 – 9 p.m.
Join this group to discuss thoughts about the challenges that men face. Topics will include role models, expectations, friendships, intimacy, fatherhood. The group is facilitated by a male and female team. Number of meetings TBD.

WHERE: NVFS’ Oakton office, 10455 White Granite Dr., Suite 100, Oakton, Va.

WHO: Survivors, family members, first responders and their families directly affected by the Sept. 11 Pentagon attack.

HOW: For more information and to register, please contact Lauren Wolfe at 703-219-3921 or lwolfe@nvfs.org; or Milagros Terán at 703-219-2183 or mteran@nvfs.org.
