Workshop to Teach Sept. 11 Survivors How to Start a Small Business

WHAT: Northern Virginia Family Service’s (NVFS) Group Services Program invites individuals directly affected by the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon to attend the “Turning Dreams into Reality” Small Business Workshop. This is part of an ongoing series of workshops created to assist survivors, their families and first responders address their continuing recovery needs.

WHEN: Friday, 14 July 2006 2:00 - 6:00 p.m.

WHERE: NVFS’ Oakton office, 10455 White Granite Dr., Suite 100, Oakton, Va.

WHO: It is free for survivors, first responders and family members directly affected by the Sept. 11 Pentagon attack.

WHY: The goals of the workshop are:
1.) To identify the necessary steps to take in the planning and design of a small business venture,
2.) To feel confident and reassured by exploring the topic and asking questions of experts in the area
3.) To network with others in the group and exchange information that can help you in your venture.

NVFS’ Group Services Program has secured speakers from the National Women’s Business Center, SCORE and the Small Business Administration, among others. You will also hear from 9/11 Survivors who have successfully started a small business.

The workshop will address the legal aspects of starting a business, how to reduce legal costs, how to better use all of the marketing tools available, and working with other people in the same business.

HOW: To learn more or to register for “Turning Dreams into Reality” Small Business Workshop, or other workshops and support groups offered by NVFS’ Group Services Program, contact Milagros Teran at 703-219-2183, mteran@nvfs.org.
