their children, or none at all. The goal of
NVFS Health Care programs is to provide a link
to quality, affordable health care.

SERVICES
Low and moderate
income households in Northern Virginia are often
on the brink of homelessness. NVFS offers Eviction
Prevention, Housing Counseling, Transitional
Housing and Housing Assistance to those in danger
of losing their most valuable assets.

EARLY
CHILDHOOD
The Healthy Families
and Early Head Start programs offer the tools
that moms and dads need to provide a healthy
beginning for their children's lives. Through
home visits and center-based child development,
NVFS' Early Childhood program serves the future
leaders of Northern Virginia.

FOSTER
CARE
Special Foster Care
provides temporary, quality, family settings
for children with emotional, behavioral, physical
or developmental needs. As a result, the children
are given the opportunity to develop to their
fullest potential.

YOUTH
INITIATIVES
NVFS offers two programs
created just for teens:
Equipping
Teens
is based on the Equip model, a proven group
approach for teens that integrates anger management
with other important goals for teens.
Drug
Abuse Prevention Program for Youth (DAPPY)
is an education-based program that teaches groups
of young people about the negative consequences
of drug use and the benefits of a drug-free
lifestyle.

LIFE
COUNSELING
NVFS offers a counseling
program with more than 50 years in Northern
Virginia. Licensed and masters-level clinicians
provide counseling for adults, children, groups,
separating and divorced parents, and entire
families. Therapy groups and court-ordered services
are also provided. Affordable and sliding-scale
fees available.

JOB
TRAINING
NVFS offers two job
training programs for individuals who want to
increase their income and meet Northern Virginia's
demand for skilled workers:
Construction
Training Opportunities Program
(CTOP) Trainees receive marketable skills certifications
from a recognized provider in specific construction
trades including OSHA and CPR certification.
Ongoing case management addresses barriers to
employment; financial management, job development
services; interviewing skills, and employer
outreach.
Training
Futures
teaches computer skills, business english, business
math, keyboarding, bookkeeping, filing, basic
accounting, medical terminology and business
communication skills. Trainees are also provided
one-on-one support during their job search with
assistance in resume writing, interviewing and
business etiquette.

RECOVERY
Now in its sunset
phase, the Survivors' Fund Project has provided
effective, long-term case management services
to more than 1,100 survivors of the Sept. 11
terrorist attacks. The program now offers a
variety of group programs to help survivors
continue their recovery.

Businesses play a
key role in strengthening families and communities
through the adoption of family-supportive workplace
policies. The CARE Awards are given annually
to employers in Northern Virginia that provide
exceptionally family-friendly workplace policies
and benefits for their employees.

NVFS operates three
thrift stores which provide name-brand, affordable
clothing and accessories to bargain shoppers

Kramer
Oberdorfer Housing Fund
The Kramer-Oberdorfer
Housing Fund (KOHF) was established by Julia Kramer
and Tom Oberdorfer to raise funds for NVFS' BEST
Transitional Housing Program for single, low-income
mothers in Prince William County. Learn more about
