|Crystal was able to access a donated car through NVFS' Vehicles for Change program, where her case worker saw her drive and tenacity and recommended her to NVFS' Training Futures program. Crystal now holds a living-wage job with regular hours and sees a bright future for herself and her children.|
|Lydia and her mother were reunited after years of separation when Lydia immigrated to the U.S. They needed help to overcome not only the legal barriers to living together, but with cultural differences and Lydia's adolescence, personal ones as well. Today, Lydia is off to college as her mother proudly looks on.|
|Healthy Families gave Glenda the tools to work through her postpartum depression and help her become a stable, independent mom.|
|Octavio had always wanted to be an electrical engineer, but resources limited him to working as an electrician. When he learned about NVFS' small business program, he quickly became interested and thanks to assistance with planning and financing, he now runs an electrician service as well as an electrician school.
||Abby suffered from depression following the birth of her first child, but was able to improve her mental health and family connections through Healthy Families. Healthy Families was also able to help her improve her housing situation, obtain a car, and receive additional assistance for her family for food and other necessities.
||Alma was experiencing severe flashbacks from the domestic abuse that her now ex-partner had been inflicting upon her and her children. Following a referral to NVFS from her CPS case manager, Alma found a support group for victims of domestic violence as well as mental health counseling. Thanks to the comprehensive approach of NVFS services, Alma was also able to access legal services.
||Amy was 19, single, and pregnant - and her family had asked her to leave home due to her pregnancy. Healthy Families helped Amy get back on her feet: Amy is now working and taking college classes.

||Mercedes doubled her income when with NVFS' small business program's help, she registered her own snow plow business in order to win contracts from Virginia Department of Transportation.
||Maria went from cleaning houses for $8 an hour to an annual income of $40,000 when she started her own cleaning business, with the help of NVFS' small business program.
||After years of blindness in one eye, Sara was connected by NVFS to a medical plan for low-income individuals that allowed her to receive surgery. With her full vision now restored, she can read, walk with ease, and help her children with their homework again.
||The determination of NVFS staff connected Tessa with the dental procedure she needed - at a price she could afford - in order to get a permanent tooth crown. Tessa went from severe dental pain to "a real smile from within."
||Sula is setting financial goals for the first time ever, thanks to Bridging Affordability, a housing program of NVFS: “My story is a miracle - I didn’t know where I was going and every day I pray for God to bless this program which has helped me so much.”
||Frances recounts how shaken up she was moving into SERVE's shelter with her family: “I didn’t know if I was going to work or have a place to call home again.” Frances submitted job applications every day, and eventually SERVE identified an affordable home for her family.
Numbers tell a story, too. In the past year:
- 50 new businesses - along with 57 full-time jobs and 39 part-time jobs - were created by Escala clients
- 95% of Healthy Families children met age-appropriate developmental milestones and were current on their immunizations
- 95% of immigration cases where a decision was reached were approved in favor of our clients
- 67% of job training graduates from our Training Futures program find a new job with a higher salary within six months of graduating. Their average salary increase: 58%
- 1,022 clients who needed help navigating the Affordable Care Act's Health Marketplace received assistance obtaining an optimal health insurance plan
- 9,512 individuals have received nutritious food and learned about proper nutrition at SERVE's Hunger Resource Center
