This seminar meets Supreme Court of Virginia requirements* and is geared to help divorcing parents shift their attention to their children's needs. It emphasizes each parent's responsibility to provide a nurturing, non-threatening environment for their children. Parents learn ways to lessen the negative impact of divorce on their children by focusing on separation as seen through their child's eyes. This seminar also emphasizes parents' roles in their child's ability to adjust to the changes in their lives. A certificate is issued the day of the class. Topics include:
- Feelings associated with separation and/or divorce;
- Ways that children of different ages react during transitions;
- A parenting approach that will benefit the children;
- Suggested ways for talking to children about the changes;
- New family structures and the roles of other adults
*TransParenting meets the parent education guidelines developed by the Supreme Court of Virginia in response to mandated divorce education that became effective on July 1, 2001.
Please make alternate arrangements for your children; children are not allowed at this seminar. Preregistration and prepayment are required: we must know ahead of time how many people will attend. Payments and registrations cannot be made the day of the class.
