2013 NVFS Volunteer Awards
Thank you to all of our volunteers for making a difference today and every day!
2nd Annual NVFS Volunteer Appreciation Awards
The NVFS Presidential, Impact & Community Champion Awards recognize volunteers for exceptional achievements that exceed volunteer expectation and demonstrate high impact on clients, staff, programs and the community we serve.
Volunteers are nominated by NVFS staff and winners are determined by a selection committee comprised of NVFS from all levels and programs throughout the agency.
Presidential Award Winner:
Tom KronesDevelopment Assistant, SERVE Front Desk,
Volunteer Council, Special Events & Drives
Tom, who has volunteered with NVFS for almost three years, does not limit his volunteering to just one role. As Development Assistant, Tom has helped with everything from the mundane, such as putting together mailings and filing in-kind forms, to more challenging tasks such as entering event participants into our fundraising database. Tom is also a Front Desk volunteer for the SERVE campus. This role is particularly important because Tom covers the front desk on a day that the majority of staff are in meetings; with his leadership, the SERVE campus barely misses a beat. Tom is loyal, hardworking, meticulous and driven and always rises above regular volunteer expectation.
Nominees:
Reshmee Kottarath, Health Access Prince William
Elizabeth Parker, Food Distribution Center Volunteer
Recognizes volunteers who have been with NVFS for at least one year and who have donated a significant amount of time, at least 200 hours, in the last year.
Impact Award Winner:
Jose Oyola
Hispanic Entrepreneurship Program
Nx Level Business Course Presenter and Assistant
Jose provides critical support to the Hispanic Entrepreneurship Program’s 10-week Nx Level Business Plan course by leading trainings on how participants can utilize Google’s features to create viable business plans and by working individually with participants to help them create and complete their plans. In addition to working with clients, Jose also invited program staff and volunteers to attend a professional development training at Google, where he is employed, and he successfully applied for and received a Google Goodware grant so future NxLevel courses can be taught in a computer lab.
Nominees:
Ralph Lickey, Food Pick-up Driver
Nargess Moghaddam, Volunteer Therapist & Interpreter
Denise & Kelly Fortner, Shelter Children's Activities
Pascal Jenn, MHS Front Desk
Laura Riley, Shelter Children's Activities
Recognizes volunteers who have made a significant impact, but only requires a minimum of 20 hours or three months of volunteering.
Community Champion Award Winner
Sudley United Methodist ChurchSERVE Campus programs
Sudley United Methodist Church is a small but mighty congregation whose members volunteer regularly at the SERVE campus. Church volunteers prepare and donate monthly Egg & Cheese casserole breakfasts and quarterly "Community Stew" dinners for the 92 residents in our Family Care Shelter. This support resulted in over 1,200 nutritious, home-cooked meals for shelter residents last year. Additionally, the Sudley UMC Youth Group volunteers their time two Wednesdays a month in the Food Distribution Center to sort, organize and prepare food packages; these teens are one of our hardest-working, most efficient volunteer groups. Sudley UMC's steadfast support for and collaboration with the SERVE campus ensures that fewer people go to bed hungry.
Recognizes volunteer groups that tirelessly support NVFS in many ways throughout the year.
