Community Partner Spotlight: Q&A with Safeway Foundation

Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner Center awards $10,000 grant to NVFSNVFS has been proud to partner with Safeway Foundation and its Hunger Is campaign for the past two years to raise awareness and funds to fight childhood hunger. Through this partnership, customers at local Safeway stores have helped to raise funds for our SERVE Breakfast program and, most recently, our Winter Break program to help ensure children in the Greater Prince William area have access to the nutritional food they need.

Safeway Foundation shares more on the impact it feels its able to make on the local community through our partnership:

Why does Safeway Foundation choose to support NVFS?
We are proud to partner again with NVFS. We know that kids who access services at school like free breakfasts and lunch have a difficult time when school is out. Not all kids look forward to school breaks because that means that they lack access to needed food. The Hunger Resource Center is a leading distributer of food in Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. We are thankful for their efforts to feed our neighbors.

What impact does Safeway Foundation feel it’s able to make on the community through partnership with NVFS and/or the Hunger Resource Center?
Safeway and Safeway Foundation are proud to work with organizations like NVFS as they turn our customers’ humbling donations to our Hunger Is campaign to real food for our neighbors in need. This year the campaign generated $4,430, which will allow NVFS to provide nutritious breakfast food to almost 1,500 children who will be home from school during the winter holiday break.

What aspects of Safeway Foundation’s partnership with NVFS are you most proud of?
School holidays are a very difficult time for kids experiencing Food Insecurity. We are proud to work with NVFS to provide nutritious breakfasts that will help children in need enjoy their holiday.
