Bus Driver

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Drive school bus to designated locations
  • Complete bus safety checks before leaving the parking lot daily and complete safety checks when buses return and children have departed
  • Maintain cleanliness of buses and checks gas, oil, and water daily; report any needed repairs immediately to the Center Manager or designee
  • May be selected to drive on field trips or other designated agency activities
  • File all required reports and receipts
  • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to the operations of a school bus in the state of VA and under HS performance standards; observe posted speed limits at all times and immediately report any accident or damage to the vehicle to the center manager
  • Report any concerns about children to Assistant Center Manager, Center Manager, Family Advocate(s), or Teacher(s)

Education and experience required:

  • High School diploma
  • Clean DMV record
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) from the state in which the driver resides that is specific to school bus licensure
  • Current Department of Transportation Medical Card
  • At least one (1) year experience working with and/or transporting children ages 3-5 preferred
  • Oral and written proficiency in English, with ability to interpret documents such as safety rules and policy and procedures manuals
  • Bus safety training and excellent customer service
  • Familiarity with Arlington County roadways and traffic patterns
  • Successful completion of background checks required upon hire (including drug testing, TB test and physical exam)
