Boy Scouts of America’s National Capital Area Council

Food Assistance

Since 2011, the Boy Scouts of America’s Scouting for Food drive has helped to provide thousands of dollars’ worth of food each year to Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS). In 2017 alone, the Boy Scouts of America’s National Capital Area Council – Bull Run District donated 16,452 pounds of food valued at $23,664, which helped provide local families in need with Thanksgiving meals. Volunteers also picked up donations and brought them to Operation Turkey’s drop-off center.

The Boy Scouts of America’s National Capital Area Council – Bull Run District have been volunteering with NVFS for more than 10 years. During that time, its volunteers have made a lasting impact on our organization, particularly with our Operation Turkey food drive.

“The Boy Scouts volunteer to do our district’s part and to help families in need during the holidays,” Tamara Brown, Scouting for Food coordinator for the Boy Scouts of America’s National Capital Area Council says. “The scouts have learned how many needy families there are in our community.”

NVFS is thankful for our ongoing partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, and its generosity in support of both Operation Turkey and the Northern Virginia community.
