Manassas, VA – Sept. 27, 2011 – Empty Bowls is an evening of good food and good company that highlights the issue of hunger in our community and supports the food recovery programs of NVFS’ SERVE Campus. The 2011 Empty Bowls event is on Friday, Oct. 21 from 5 – 8 p.m. at Manassas Assembly of God (11500 New Life Way, Bristow, VA).
Now, more than ever, hunger in our community is a serious issue—in the Northern Virginia/DC region one in six people are at risk of experiencing hunger. Empty Bowls continues the fight against this unrelenting opponent.
Attend this heartwarming event, get a handcrafted bowl made by the potters of Manassas Clay, and enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread knowing your donation is helping in the fight to end hunger and food insecurity. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and below.
This year’s Golden Ladle Event Sponsor is Vulcan Materials Company and the Silver Ladle Sponsor is Miller Toyota. Additional event sponsorships and donations of soup and bread from local restaurants are still needed.
We will also be accepting signups for the Help the Homeless community walk, which is part of Fannie Mae’s Help the Homeless Walkathon program. The registration fee for youth age 25 and under is $20, and the fee is $30 for adults age 26 and over. Registration fees support NVFS homelessness support and prevention and safe and stable housing programs throughout the region. Our goal is to register 3,000 walkers. Each paid registered walker received a Help the Homeless t-shirt in November.
The food recovery programs of NVFS’ SERVE Campus distribute 1.2 million pounds of food annually to over 900 families each month, and provide three meals a day 365 days a year at its Family Shelter, totaling over 65,000 meals each year.
