Stable Housing: The Foundation for Our Neighbors' Successes

Stable Housing: The Foundation for Our Neighbors’ Successes

Housing, a basic necessity, is a struggle for many in the community and is one of the primary focuses of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS). Stable housing is a foundation for success and self-sufficiency, and providing access to affordable housing to assist our neighbors in becoming or remaining stably housed is a key goal of NVFS’ community housing services. Learn more about our housing programs and the impact they provide in our community.

Village of Impact Offers Insight Into Early Childhood Education

Volunteer families put together backpacks full of school supplies for children in need

NVFS’ Village of Impact provides Northern Virginia families with meaningful opportunities to engage in service together while learning about critical local needs. At our latest event, 25 attendees assembled 60 fully stocked backpacks for children in NVFS’ shelters to help them start the school year off strong.

Julie Simmons, managing director at Human Capital Strategic Consulting and founding Village of Impact member, said, “It’s rare to find a hands-on opportunity for our 6-year-olds to get involved, and this project in particular really resonated with them as they prepare to go back to school. They were excited to know they were helping other children and are already asking what we’re going to do next!”

Local Companies, Donors Support NVFS Back-to-School Drive
F.H. Furr at NVFS Back-to-School Drive
F.H. Furr employees Kristie and Quinton drop off company donations to NVFS’ Back-to-School Drive

NVFS’ Back-to-School Drive was a huge success. More than 1,800 fully stocked backpacks were donated, assembled and distributed to children in the Northern Virginia community. The Back-to-School Drive would not have been such a success without all of our donors and volunteers. Thank you.

NVFS especially thanks F.H. Furr Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning & Electrical for donating not only 550 new backpacks and cash to the Back-to-School Drive but their time as well. Thank you, F.H. Furr, for your commitment to NVFS and ensuring local children start the school year off strong.
