Oakton, VA, July 3, 2007- Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS), an organization deeply devoted to serving families and children, announced that their annual Back-to-School Drive has begun! This annual event provides school supplies to hundreds of needy children in the local area. NVFS is seeking help from the community to make this year’s drive a success.
“Providing children with the necessary school supplies not only helps them start the academic year off right, but it also prepares them with the tools they need to be successful students,” said Drive Coordinator and Volunteer Management Intern Margaret Graybeal. “Anybody is capable of making a difference in the life and future of a child.”
Through this Back-to-School Drive, NVFS has helped hundreds of children from low-income families prepare for the school year by equipping them with new schools supplies. The children being served this year are clients of NVFS and come from various backgrounds and age groups (preschool through high school).
Participants will receive a child’s first name, age, gender and grade level, and suggested schools supplies. Donations include a backpack full of the necessary school supplies such as paper, pencils, markers, and pens. Gift cards and monetary donations are also accepted. Donations must be delivered to the Oakton office of NVFS by August 3rd so that the backpacks and supplies can be delivered to the children in time for the first day of school.
