Oakton, VA, June 29, 2007- More than 50 people came together to support the Care for Kids reception, helping to raise funds to benefit the Loudoun Kids Health Partnership (LKHP). LKHP is a program of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) that provides access to low-cost comprehensive primary medical care for uninsured children of low-income Loudoun County residents.
“There are at least 2,000 children in Loudoun County without comprehensive health care. When children are sick, they have to stay home from school and their parents miss work to care for them. Without treatment, they become even sicker and must rely on scarce resources such as hospital emergency rooms. The Loudoun Kids Health Partnership provides timely and comprehensive care for these children,” said NVFS President and CEO Mary Agee.
Families participating in LKHP often work several jobs with no benefits or they cannot afford very high insurance premiums. There are currently 245 children enrolled in LKHP, with nearly 200 on a waiting list. The average cost for one full year of health care for one child is $450. Services that children receive through LKHP include comprehensive primary health care and sick care, lab services, pharmaceutical assistance, case management, and information and referral services.
Carol Jameson, NVFS Vice President of Supportive Family Services thanked when she said, “We are grateful for everyone who supported this event. The money we raised here will directly assist children in living in Loudoun County. Children will be able to get the medical attention they need and deserve.” The Care for Kids event was made possible through Jim and Norma Brown of Creighton Enterprises, Inc, Len and Ginger of Courtland Farms, and Brad and Theresa Kline of Bradford Kline and Associates.
